Student Enrichment Academy

The Student Enrichment Academy is a year-round program that promotes the academic and social development of the school age children living in our family shelter and community housing programs. It provides academic instruction, help with socialization skills, and structured cultural and recreational activities.

Our goal is to ensure that the children regularly attend school and advance their academic development. We also want them to develop a sense of confidence in their ability to learn and become self-sufficient adults.

We operate the Academy on the grounds of the Kirkbride Center and provide bus transportation to and from the program for all students. Participation averages 100 children each day. The students attend as many as 50 different elementary, middle, and high schools throughout the city.

There are six classrooms staffed by certified school teachers and aides. The after-school segment takes place Monday through Friday from 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. and emphasizes completing homework, language skills, math skills, art, science, and recreation (games, yoga).

The full-day summer program focuses on academic enrichment (reading, math, art, and science) and recreational and cultural activities, including trips to museums and amusement parks.
